PHO PHO

I definitely need to come back here!

16 Dunrobin Place, Pakuranga Heights, Auckland

Although I had visited Pho Pho once before, it was a quick stop on the way to a friend's wedding, so I only had time to grab a Vietnamese Iced Coffee to go. After glancing at the menu, I noticed some intriguing dishes like Tamarind Sea Snail and Crab Noodle Soup. I immediately knew I had to return and enjoy a proper meal here!

Location and Atmosphere

Pho Pho is nestled in Pakuranga Heights, about a 20-minute drive from the city centre. They offer dedicated parking spots for customers, which is super convenient. As you step inside, you’re greeted by the restaurant’s large name, "Pho Pho," prominently displayed at the front desk—just in case you need a reminder of where you are. The staff are incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right from the start.

What Brought Me Here

Our initial visit was just a quick coffee run, but the Vietnamese Iced Coffee we had was both refreshing and delicious. It was the perfect pick-me-up for us bridesmaids with a busy day ahead.

My Mission

I don’t know much about the restaurant’s history, but from what I’ve gathered, Pho Pho has been around for at least four years and is clearly doing well. Their online reviews are filled with praise for their food. The menu features a delightful array of rice dishes, dried noodles, and noodle soups. In addition to Vietnamese coffee, they offer other drinks like brown sugar milk tea and peach and lemon tea. However, the one that caught my attention was the Sea Snail. If you’re a seafood lover (or don’t have any allergies), this is a must-try! It was the universal signal to return. That was the only thing in my head on the ride afterwards and 3 months later, I completely forgot about it…. But I’ve made it a priority this week, so stay tuned for Pho Pho Part 2 if you’re curious about the rest of their menu.

My brief visit to Pho Pho was quite charming. After ordering two takeaway Vietnamese coffees, we explained to the staff why we were dressed up—several curious glances from fellow diners suggested bridesmaids aren’t a common sight! I couldn’t help but notice the large fish tank in the restaurant, which my partner would absolutely love (we have two at home ourselves). The place is cosy, and the aroma of beef stock was tantalizing. I’m eager to return and try their food next time. When we finally got our Vietnamese coffees, we gave them a good shake to stir up the excitement and took a big sip. Whether it was the early morning or the long ride, the coffee was just perfect and made me so glad to have discovered another great Vietnamese spot in Auckland.
